FLORENCE, SC- As part of the development process for the 2020 Comprehensive Plan, the City of Florence will hold a series of special “focus group” sessions. Each session will focus on a geographic area of the City, the first being south Florence. This first focus group session will take place on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at 6:00 pm in the fellowship hall at First Presbyterian Church, which is located at 700 Park Avenue.

These informal sessions will be the first step in the process of collecting information for the City’s Comprehensive Plan. This Plan will serve as a guide for the development and enhancement of our community in the coming years. The sessions will be facilitated by Kendig Keast Collaborative, the urban planning consultant which has been selected to assist with the plan update process.

The purpose of these sessions is to provide an opportunity for the consultants to talk with and hear from a cross section of the community’s residents, business owners, and leaders early in the long-range planning process. Through these sessions, our consultants and City staff will gain valuable insights into the current issues, opportunities, needs and priorities of the Florence community. We will listen for common themes and unique insights based on the observations and opinions that are shared. No preparation or materials are needed to participate, just a willingness to share your perspective on our city’s major assets and challenges.

For more information about the focus group sessions or the Comprehensive Plan update process, please contact the City of Florence Department of Planning, Research, and Development at (843) 665-2047.
