News Release Regarding Storm Debris Pickup - October 19, 2016

Florence County has been approved for FEMA aid for individuals.  Read the story from the Morning News,
Residents can apply for assistance by registering online with FEMA, or by calling 1-800-621-3362.  Those who are deaf or hard of hearing should call 1-800-462-7585 (TTY), and those who use Video Relay Service can call 1-800-621-3362.  Toll free numbers are operating from 7am - 10pm seven days per week until further notice.

Due to cleanup efforts of our work crews, the Scrap Metal Collection Week scheduled for October 17-21, 2016 is cancelled.

Following meetings with Florence County and the State this week, a comprehensive debris plan for residents to include in-kind debris collection by city crews as well as contract labor will be developed.  In the interim, we will substitute traditional weekly yard waste collection schedules as work crews will focus on removal of storm debris from right-of-ways, medians, and debris placed at the curb by residents.  This DOES NOT impact weekly collection of garbage and recycling and it will remain on the assigned weekly route schedule.  City residents should understand that the cleanup will be lengthy and it is necessary for city crews to follow certain protocol in order for the city to be eligible for reimbursement through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

The City will continue access to our dedicated emergency response Information line for residents:  843-665-3107 - here you will receive recorded updates from the City of Florence.  The City's radio station at 106.9 FM is also providing nonstop announcements for residents.

This notice was issued October 10th and remain in effect until further notice.
